Lip Makeup Trends in Korea
Lip makeup holds a very special place in the Korean makeup world. Lip makeup trends in Korea can vary in style depending on the desired look and season.
Let's see the 5 top Korean lip makeup trends!
1. gradient lip

One of the most notable Korean lip styles is the gradient lip. This makeup look creates a more innocent and delicate feel to the overall image. This gradient look is used to subtly fill in your inner lip and create a softer look. When done right, this lip style can help create a sweet look as shown in the image above.
How to create gradient lips
Method A
1. Apply concealer to the entire of your lips to create one colour base
2. Place lip colour (It is more common for a dark or bold lip colour to be used in the inner lip)
3. Feather out the lip colour from the centre of the lips to the outer parts of the lip, but also leave a good amount of concealer to peek through
However, it is common for the lip colour to spread completely onto your lip in method A, therefore losing the purpose of the 'gradient lip' effect. So for the gradient lip, I recommending using this method instead!
Method B
1. Apply concealer to the lip
2. Fill your lips normally with lip colour (but not too heavily)
3. Apply a small amount of concealer to the outlines of your lips and blend
In my personal opinion, the gradient lip create a soft look which would be perfect for a dreamy date night out.
2. Two colour lip gradient

Similar to the previous lip trend, two gradient lip involves using a darker shade on the inside of your lip but using two lip colours to blend together rather than just one. By using a darker shade on the inner lip and then transitioning to a lighter colour towards the outer lip, it creates the illusion of fuller and plumper lips. Such a look results in the final product being alluring yet still maintaining youth.
How to create two colour gradient lips
1. Fill your lips with any lip colour
2. Add a dark shade onto the centre of your lips where they meet
3. Blend using your finger of brush to spread small amounts of the darker colour away from the middle
This look if preferably my favourite of all the trends as it is simple yet eye-catching. This look can be done with any colours therefore making this look extremely easy to create!
3. Pink/purple/coral Lips

Pink lips have always been a staple in any makeup world, but nobody loves an adorable, girlish pink lip much like Koreans. Whether it is a pastel pink to a burgundy rose, such pink toned lips are utilized. Such looks like the classic, pure Korean look to the rising popularity in a more charming and sultry look all contain a pink lip colour.
Of course, there are different pink hues that suit different skin tones.
Light skin tones: Colours that are too rich or dark in tone may highlight or even amplify your fairness. Otherwise, anything with a bit of colour can bring vibrancy and colour to your face. These colours would be recommended for you
Medium skin tones: for medium skin tones, they can extend their colours into the deeper and darker colours, but unlike pale skin tones, medium skin tones tend to look washed out with light coloured lip makeup. So for medium skin tones, these are the tones for you
Dark skin tones: darker skin tones can easily look washed out when the wrong colours are used, and so darker coloured lip makeup is in their favour. For dark skin tones, here are some suitable shades

4. Glossy Lips

Although matte lips are definitely rising in popularity, glossy lips are still among one of the trendiest lip styles in Korea today. Not only do they provide a hydrated glow to your lips, they create a plump and kissable look. Following the Korean basics of beauty, this trend follows the less is more belief and gives that desired younger image.
These glossy looks can be achieved using three methods
Lip gloss - this is a no-brainer. Some recommend lip glosses are
Mizon Correct Combo Lip Gloss
CLIO Stay Shine Lip Syrup
Lip tint - like lip gloss, lip tint (or stain) adds that extra hydrated essence to our lips. Unlike lip gloss, lip tint has amazing staying power. Here are some of our fave tints

Etude House Dear Darling Water Gel Tint
Lipstick gloss - just like as the name suggests, lipstick gloss is essentially a gloss, but in lipstick format. Although lipstick glosses don't hit the same mark with lip glosses when it comes to providing that super, glossed over lip, they still create a hydrated and glistening look.

5. Matte Lips

The matter lip trend is finally making its way into Korean makeup. Te Korean matte lip style, however, varies from the Western matte lip as it is not as full and heavy in comparison. The Korean matte lips still holds the essential belief of innocence and youth, so it is more common for the matte lip to be slightly blended away at the edge of the lips. This technique preserves the classic natural look for which is a must in Korea.
