Tony Moly Perfect Eyes Multi Palette vs Etude House Play Colour Eyes In The Cafe (Review + Comparison)

Here comes a new series called Korea's 1 on 1 where we put similar Korean beauty products to the test against one another to give you the best insight on the best of Korean beauty.

In this article we'll be comparing the Tony Moly Perfect My Eyes Palette + the Etude House Play Colour Eyes in The Cafe. Similar in both theme and price (on 3rd party Korean beauty websites), we at Beautyia decided to put these two eye shadow palettes head to head.

The 1st of the contestants is Tony Moly's Perfect My Eyes Multi Palette. There are two products in the Perfect My Eyes Multi Palette line - 01 Mood Maker and 02 Cool and Chic. The two eye shadow palettes utilize warm (01 Mood Maker) and cool (02 Cool and Chic) tones to create a sensual and natural eye makeup look.

Our chosen palette for the battle is the 01 Mood Maker.

The palette goes by around USD$16 on 3rd party websites.

The 2nd contender is the Etude House Play Colour Eyes in the Cafe. Part of Etude House's Play collection, the Play Colour Eyes In The Cafe (as the name suggests) comes with very coffee-like colours to create a warm and natural daily look.

It goes by USD$15 on 3rd party websites.

Let's get straight into it ♡

colour

The Etude House Play Eyes in the Cafe palette had more colours included (two more) compared to the Tony Moly Perfect My Eyes 01 Mood Maker. Regardless, the colours were very much similar to one another, being based off the coffee/autumn colour schemes.

There were a few similar hues that appeared on the two palettes

Grapefruit Marmalade=Coral

Takeout Without Syrup=Bronzing Touch

Chocolate Latte=Sweet Mood

Overall, these eye shadow colours were roughly the same yet had their differentiating features. These colours are suitable for a typical natural look for any occasion.

When it comes to the Etude House palette promotional images, it proves that Etude House not only has the best lighting but cannot stay true to its colour. Colours such as Takeout Without Syrup and Caramel Latte have major differences in shade and tone. Tony Moly didn't (was also unable to?) dodge this aspect. Colours such as Even Shine, Coral, Give Me Peach and Sweet Mood also had their variations, though not as noticeable as Etude House.

application

Like most eye shadows the application of the two palettes were smooth and were easily applied.

There were differences in the pigmentation in terms of the different eye shadow textures. The matte colours of both palettes appeared faint unlike the shimmer and glitter eyeshadows.

Tony Moly's 01 Mood Maker definitely had a better and even application compared to Etude House's In The Cafe when applied with a finger. When applying the 01 Mood Maker Palette, the colour came off more pigmented whereas In the Cafe came off sheer and fine.

Thus, in terms of application, the Tony Moly Perfect My Eyes Multi Palette hits the nail in this aspect as not only does it have the most pigmentation but the product blends much more cleanly unlike the Etude House palette.

durability

We put the staying power of each palette to the test against the might of a tissue and water.

TISSUE

Etude House

  • Didn't smudge but wore away very very slightly

  • After a few rubs, it only faintly remained

Tony Moly

  • Left a more noticeable streak

  • After a few rubs the colour was gone

WATER

Etude House

  • Did not budge on the 1st try

  • Began to lose pigment on the second

Tony Moly

  • After the 1st try, it began to lose pigment

  • 75% was gone after the second test

Overall - Etude House clearly wins this round with its durability, being able to withstand the two tests more than the Tony Moly Perfect My Eyes Multi Palette.

Final Verdict

It's time we come to the final verdict to decide which eyeshadow palette comes out on top. Both of these products came very close to each other as both had the same number of pros and cons. However, after much evaluation, we have come to conclude with a victor. When it came to the durability of the product, the Etude House Play Colour Eyes in the Cafe held on better compared to its opponent. Yet the producted couldn’t out-perform the Tony Moly palette when it came to the overall colour and appldication. With that in mind, although the Etude House palette lasted longer, it would require more product and time in order to achieve a well pigmented look. And to deal with the Tony Moly Perfect Eyes Multi Palette's weaker stay on power, an eye primer or setting spray would easily put the shadow in place.

Thus, our winner is the ...
